Leafcutter bees are bivoltine, meaning multiple generations of bees can emerge in a single year! Second (or third) generation bees may emerge if warm summer temps continue into early fall. Simply leave your filled nesting materials in the bee house, and second-generation bees may emerge, mate, and nest. Evidence of emergence is a large hole in the capped ends and leafy debris around the house's base. If second-generation bees emerge, you may need to add additional nesting materials to give the new bees enough space and a clean place to nest! Remember: The bees also need pollen, nectar, and soft, deciduous leaves to build their nests. |
